The World Naked Bike Ride is happening in Canberra on 21st March  10.30 am for riders or for on lookers 12.00 pm

On the 21st of March a group of nude cyclists decorated in bright and
bold body paint will remind Canberra of the dangers that climate
change poses to our planet by riding to Parliament House and the
Wheels Motor Exhibition. This message has never been more important
coming, as it does, just months after world leaders failed to act in
Copenhagen and in the lead up to a Federal election which will likely
be fought over the issue of climate change.

According to a member of the Canberra ride organizing collective,
Robin Shannon, the ride "is a demonstration of the creativity and
vivacity of ordinary people. It is a way for those who are not part of
the political process to show that they care about the shared dangers
we all face by celebrating some of the things which makes life so
valuable - community, freedom and artistic expression."

Riders will come from all reaches of society. Alice Snow, member of
the Canberra ride organizing collective, says the ride will have
"people from all walks of life. We have actively sought links with a
diverse range of groups. There are all sorts who are planning on
attending - musicians, students, artists, public servants, queers, the
wheel-chair bound. We even have a priest who is keen to come along."

As well as exposing the vulnerability we all face due to climate
change the ride will also draw special attention to the unique
vulnerability faced by cyclists on the road. This is particularly
important given that a recent report from an ANU Road Trauma
specialist suggests that up to ninety-eight per cent of injuries
suffered by cyclists are not reported. According to medal winning
cyclist, Cadel Evans, Australia is one of the most dangerous
countries. "[Drivers] just don't realise the danger they're causing
other people."

The Canberra ride will be joined by naked cyclists through out the
Southern Hemisphere during the month of March, all showing the
vulnerability of our atmosphere by publicly displaying their own
vulnerability as cyclists and as humans. As one of the coordinators of
Australia’s rides, Marte Kinder said "When we are involved in an
accident with a motor vehicle we might as well be naked because
clothing doesn't protect us. This is being very obvious, but
underneath our clothes there's a living, breathing human body that's
fragile."

The rides, under the banner of the World Naked Bike Ride, will be
joined by rides throughout the Southern Hemisphere in March and the
Northern hemisphere in June. The first Naked Bike Ride was celebrated
in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2001 and every year since cyclists right around
the world have been celebrating all that is good in life while drawing
attention to the vulnerability of this life that we hold so dear to
climate change. Individual rides in the US and UK in 2009 attracted
thousands of riders.
